PRACTICAL

Part 2: Design Direction
Create a sketch of my work
Fig 1.1 Sketch

Fig 1.2 Sketch

About my sketch, I decided to use my own photo in the poster. For example, the left eye above the dove, and the ocean around my arm.

Digitize Poster

Fig 2.1 Digitize Poster Process

First,I select myself from the photo using quick selection tool. Then, click select and mask and use the refine edge brush tool to make the edge softer. After that, output to new layer with layer mask and I add a solid background for it. The photo looks a little bit dark so I adjust the brightness/ contrast on it.

Next step, I use lasso tool to draw the shape that I want. The photo above was taken by me when I was traveling.

I need an eye picture in my poster so I select the eye part that I want from my own photo. Then, I adjust the brightness/ contrast and hue/saturation on it.

Below is the rough draft that I created:

Next, I choose a green solid colour as the background.

Fig 2.8 Apply filters to an ellipse

After creating the ellipse, I applied a blue gradient color to use it as a background. To enhance the visual appeal, I began by applying smart filters. First, I used Gaussian Blur to create a softer effect. Following that, I applied Polar Coordinates and Twirl filters to shape it. Last, added Radial Blur.

Fig 2.10 Adjust Color Balance

Afterward, I searched for background materials on the Internet and downloaded this picture. I opened it in Photoshop, set the blending mode to soft light, and finally adjusted the color balance.

Fig 2.11 Adding Photo Filter

Lastly, I saved the poster as a JPEG and reopened it in Photoshop. Then add photo filters to the whole poster. I chose the violet filter and adjusted the density. The poster is finally complete.
