Reflection:
The color correction and color grading are two different but important processes in video production. Color correction creates a balanced baseline, removing visual inconsistencies across the scenes​. Color grading make the scene to a specific color scheme to evoke certain feelings.


Project 2 - Part 1: Production Shoot 

In this project, we have to complete shooting the movie clips in groups and edit them individually. We were divided into several groups by Mr. Martin. There are 7 clips that we need to shoot, I am taking the role of a camera assistant in the group.

We were preparing for the shoot while waiting for all members to arrive in the classroom. Mr. Martin was explaining the camera formatting process and some details to me and the director of photography.

Here, the actors were ready, we were adjusting the tripod height and the camera shooting angle. After that, we started shooting the movie clips.

Project 2 - Part 2: Production Shoot Editing

After completed shooting all the clips, we need to edit the clips by using Adobe Premiere Pro.

I have downloaded the footage and audio provided by the producer from Google Drive and started editing the clips.

First, I imported all the footage and audio that was shot in the class and added markers in the timeline to extract the part that I wanted to use. I rearranged the footage and synchronized it with the audio, and I defined it as a trailer for an action movie.

One of the clips was a fight scene, to avoid injury, our actors used slow motion during shooting. So here I needed to speed up the footage to make it look like a real fight. As the material is sped up, its sound changes accordingly. I applied the pitch shifter from audio effect to restore the sound in the footage.

For this part, I am adding sound effects to the video, all of them are from the Freesound website. Each sound effect has a different volume, and I also applied keyframes between them to make the sound effects sound more dynamic.

Next, I added some text to the video to make it more like an actual movie trailer.

I did color correction for each clip. I have adjusted some basic corrections to the footage. (Exposure, Highlight, and Shadow)

After color correction, I color graded the footage. For color grading, I was required with the combination of below:
  • Teal & Orange,
  • Bluish (cold),
  • Greenish (cold),
  • Brownish (warm),
  • Desaturation, 50%-70%,
  • B & W, High Contrast.
I have adjusted the temperature, tint, and saturation to the footage to achieve a new look.

I was editing the teal and orange color to the footage. I have used color wheels to edit it by adjusting the shadow to teal color and highlight and mid-tone to orange color. Besides that, I also adjusted the contrast of the footage to make it stylized. Finally, my video was completed.

Reflection

Through this project, I found the interesting things in the video, sound, and production process. I have learned that the importance of planning and attention to detail, from pre-production stages like storyboarding and scripting to the actual filming and sound recording. They are all significant in the process. In the post-production part, particularly in editing, it is challenging to balance the audio between visual elements in a video. If controlled well, it will enhance the video. I have improved my technical skills and understand the significance of collaboration and creativity in a team to complete the task in this project.
