Gestalt Law Of Closure
- Law of Closure:
The objects grouped together are seen as a whole.

Scott McLoud’s transitions:
1. Moment-to-Moment - A single action portrayed in a series of moments
2. Action-to-Action - A single subject (person, object, etc...) in a series of
actions
3. Subject-to-Subject - A series of changing subjects within a single scene
4. Scene-to-Scene - Transitions across significant distance of time and/ or
space
5. Aspect-to-Aspect - Transitions from one aspect of a place, idea or mood to
another
6. Non-Sequitur - A series of seemingly nonsensical, unrelated images and/ or
words

Assignment: Digital Triptych - Exploring Scott McCloud's Transitions
In this assignment, we are required to apply Scott McCloud's theory on
transitions to create a digital triptych, it comprising three panels that is
before, during (climactic turning point), and after a significant event. I'm
going to use the urban legend from my last assignment (slender man) as the
during (climatic turning point) of this assignment.

Sketches
First, I imagined the scenario and drew before and after sketches.
|
| Fig 2.2 Sketches before and after (4/12/2023) |
My idea is that a girl is walking in the forest alone, the Slenderman appear and he use a teddy bear to seduce the girl to go with him (decisive moment). In the end, the little girl missing.
Digitize
After that, I started digitizing the sketch.
For the before scene, I made a small change to the background forest so it
doesn't look too boring. The head and body of the teddy bear in after scene
were separated.

Fig 2.4 Applying texture |
After that, I have applied the texture to the scenes.
Mr Hafiz gave me some suggestions to modify the scene. Zooming in and out on the same background can make the scene more interesting and atmospheric. Besides that, zoom in on the teddy bear so it dominates the screen. And I drew a pair of shoes for the little girl. Last, I have completed my assignment. The transition that I choose is subject-to-subject.

Feedback
Week 11 on teams chat(4/12/2023):
Week 11 Physical Class Feedback(6/12/2023):
The two backgrounds were suggested to change the position, added shadow to the
little girl and need to draw a pair of legs and shoes for the girl. The GIF is
okay.

Reflection
From this assignment, I have an understanding of Scott McCloud's Transitions. I found that a good use of Scott McCloud's Transitions can effectively guide the reader's eye and create a sense of movement. By applying the concepts, we can create a visually work but also engages the viewer in a meaningful way. I think the challenging part for me is to choose the transition to digitize because it needs to have a certain understanding of the rules to create it.
