Final Project: Self Titled Poster

Your final task consists of integrating the challenges from 3 different modules:

  • Weave a related motive (IVN) through the font and self-portrait. This motive should convey a narrative or theme that reflects your personal or artistic identity.
  • Experiment with typography and layout to integrate the motive seamlessly with your font and self-portrait.
  • Ensure the visual narrative created supports the overall message of your poster.
Sketch
Fig 1.1 The Sketch

For my sketch, my main idea is about peace. So I drew a dove and a few tears with blank eye to express the scenes about war and peace.

Digitise

Fig 2.2 Digitise Lef Eye Part Process

First, I decided to draw my left eye part based on my sketch with pen tool. To make it more obvious, I increased the area where the tears fall and filled it with red colour. Then placed them on the left eye of my photo.

After that, I drew a dove for my right eye part. I noticed that something was missing in the picture, so I decided to enhance it by adding an olive branch to the dove. Then placed them on the right eye of my photo.

Let's move to the title part. The title of my poster is 'hide in the silence'. The fonts I used were designed in my typography class, and I named it 'Niew Font'. I chose sky blue as the font colour and apply the arc lower effect to make the words bending.

Following that, I started applying the 3D effect in Illustrator. First I adjusted the depth of the shadow and change the cap. Afterward, I proceeded to rotate the words to the specific angle I want.

In the final steps, I made adjustments to the lighting. After modifying and confirming some details, it is now complete.

Mr. Hafiz suggested that I can add more details to the background and enlarge the font to occupy a more important space in the composition.

Feedback

Week 13:
Fig 4.1 Feedback (18/12/2023)

I showed my sketch and progression board with rationale and reference to  Mr Hafiz. He reminded me to keep in mind to consider the type as an image as well.

Fig 4.2 Feedback (21/12/2023)

I have updated my progress to Mr Hafiz. He suggested using more space in the poster and we discussed the background part.

Mr Hafiz said that I can add more details to the background and adjust the font size to make the poster look better.

Reflection

My first experience with Adobe Illustrator in the Illustration and Visual Narrative class was a fantastic and exciting learning experience. I have learned the skills and knowledge necessary to tell visual stories and create illustrations. It allowed me to explore various skills. I can now bring my ideas to life effectively through Adobe Illustrator. It has deepened my love for the connection of art and narrative. As I move forward, I have found confidence in my ability to use digital tools for storytelling and creating characters, as well as a desire to explore the possibilities of visual communication. Besides that, teamwork and feedback within the class became important in my development when learning. Receiving feedback from Mr Hafiz and my classmates has assisted in improving my creation skills, motivating me to push the limits of my creativity. Last, while difficulties and frustration are in the learning process, the resilience to persist through challenges push me to hard work to get a valuable results. That is worth it.
