Introduction to Adobe After Effect

Adobe After Effects is a 2.5D animation software used for animation, visual effects, and motion picture compositing. It is used in film, TV, and web video creation. Besides that, it also used in the post-production phase and has hundreds of effects that can be used to manipulate imagery. This allows you to combine layers of video and images into the same scene.

Pre-Compositing In Adobe Photoshop
- Transforming still images (graphic elements and photography) Into moving images

Basically, Photoshop is a platform to compositing the layers. All the layers need to be arranged and renamed accordingly so that they will be organized and easy to be animated in After Effects.

Pre- Compositing In Adobe After Effects
- Animating layers sequence from various elements and platform

Adobe After Effects is a digital visual effects, motion graphics, and compositing application. Basically, we can import elements such as images, video, vector and more into After Effects. All the layer elements need to be organized and synchronized to the external software platforms such as Photoshop & Illustrator. After Effects files does not embed its media, it links to it.

Exercise

In this class, we were introduced to the software -- Adobe After Effects. We have to learn and practise how to use it. Mr Fauzi showed us the skills in the class, he also attached the demo video in Google Classroom.

The Instruction of Exercise:

1. Import the psd file given.
2. Create a composition setting 1080 px (Width) x 1920 px (Height), duration 15 second
3. Create a keyframe animation to the layers using Position (P), Scale (S) & Masking path.
4. Render output: Quicktime (.MOV) or .MP4

Fig 2.1 Process

According to the video, first I create some keyframes for typewritter to change the position and anchor point.

Fig 2.2 Applying Mask Process

Next step, I learned to apply the mask effects to the projecter.

Then, I created a new null object and opened the parent setting, changing the parent to Move option. After that, I created some keyframes of position to make all layers shaking.

Fig 2.4 Process

In this step, I selected the layer of fencer and opened easy ease to adjust the movement fast or slow.

Lastly, I added a motion blur effect to the typewritter. Below is my final composition:
